Clarity is currently accredited with AXA, but we will be accepting other major insurers in due course at our flagship sites; Edinburgh, Macclesfield and Wandsworth
Firstly, it is important to check with your individual provider, but typically standard cataract surgery (with a monofocal lens) is entirely covered by Private Medical Insurance (PMI), while for bespoke lens options, PMI contributes and you pay an uplift fee.
We have a wide range of high-quality lens options that offer different depths of vision and as well as toric lenses that correct astigmatism. Some lens options can help reduce your dependency on glasses following surgery.
To take advantage of this, all you have to do is provide us with your private medical insurance membership number and contact your medical insurance provider to get an authorisation code. We can then take care of everything for you.
Following your surgery, Clarity provides comprehensive aftercare, including medication and eye drops required in relation to the cataract surgery we delivered. This is provided at no extra cost within the timeline of package of care.
Glaucoma Treatment, Eyelid Surgery, Macular Degeneration, Retinal Treatments
Private Medical Insurance, often called PMI, is a type of policy that pays for your treatment if you choose to go privately for your healthcare, instead of relying on the NHS.
Private treatment gives you access to faster treatment: It can allow you to be seen and treated more quickly, helping you avoid long waiting lists. As well as faster treatment, choosing private care also gives you the option to choose your preferred Specialist Consultant.
Available at our flagship locations (Edinburgh, Macclesfield and Wandsworth), choosing private also offers you the comfort of a state-of-the-art hospital. You also receive more choice, depending on your plan, you might have more control over when and where you receive your treatment.
In short, PMI gives you access to private healthcare, offering speed, comfort, and choice that complements the care you receive from the NHS.
Please always confirm the details with your insurance provider as policies can vary.
However, typically, your Private Medical Insurance (PMI) will fully cover the following standard procedures:
Standard Cataract Surgery: This includes the operation to remove the cloudy lens and replace it with a monofocal lens (which focuses your vision at one distance, meaning you will still need glasses for reading or close work).
If you choose a more advanced (bespoke) lens option – such as a lens that helps you see both near and far (multifocal or trifocal) – your PMI policy will usually contribute towards the cost, but you will need to pay an additional fee (an uplift fee) to cover the extra cost of the special lens.
To take advantage of using private medical insurance for your cataract surgery at Clarity, all you have to do is provide us with your PMI membership number and contact your medical insurance provider to get an authorisation code. We can then take care of everything else for you.
