Mr Ahmad Elsahn is a highly accomplished Consultant Ophthalmologist with over 20 years of clinical experience. He currently serves as the Head of Service and Consultant Ophthalmologist at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, holds the position of Honorary Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Nottingham, and practises privately at The Park Hospital. A distinguished figure in his field, Mr Elsahn is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and the World College of Refractive Surgery and Visual Sciences.
Specialising in cataract surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), and laser and refractive eye surgery, Mr Elsahn has performed vision correction procedures both across the UK and internationally. He holds a Certificate in Laser and Refractive Surgery from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and has completed specialist fellowship training in glaucoma, cornea, and refractive surgery. His expertise encompasses complex glaucoma and anterior segment surgery, as well as corneal and external eye disease. Due to his proficiency in advanced surgical techniques, colleagues frequently refer complex cataract cases to him for specialist management, with many of his patients achieving a high degree of spectacle independence and effective glaucoma control.
Mr Elsahn’s clinical excellence is underpinned by a robust academic background. In 2017, he completed a PhD in ocular infections at the University of Southampton, subsequently undertaking senior clinical and academic roles across various NHS Trusts and universities. He was awarded his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Ophthalmology by the General Medical Council. An active researcher, he has led multiple local and international multi-centre clinical trials, presented his findings at global conferences, and published extensively in leading peer-reviewed journals. His contributions to the wider medical community include serving as a reviewer for the American Journal of Ophthalmology and as the Section Editor for Ophthalmology for Frontiers in Medicine.
Dedicated to the advancement of medical education, Mr Elsahn holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education from the University of Nottingham and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He co-leads the undergraduate ophthalmology teaching programme within his Trust and has developed blended learning modules for the University of Nottingham. Currently, he is a Visiting Senior Lecturer at Aston University, where he is responsible for developing and delivering the Professional Certificate in Glaucoma programme. His commitment to mentorship is evidenced by his supervision of undergraduate research projects, several of which have received prestigious ‘best project’ awards.
