Dr Jonathan White is a highly regarded specialist consultant in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine, as well as an advanced interventional endoscopist with over twenty years worth of clinical experience.
Dr White initially completed his medical degree at the University of Birmingham. He later undertook his specialist clinical and academic training in the Midlands. He currently works as an NHS consultant at Nottingham University Hospitals.
Dr White has a specialist interest in pre-cancerous digestive conditions of the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract (such as Barrett’s oesophagus and gastric atrophy) and H. pylori associated disease. He assisted in the pioneering of a non-invasive oesophageal tissue-sampling device that is now widely used in clinical practice.
As an advanced endoscopist, Dr White performs over 1000 diagnostic and therapeutic (gastroscopy and colonoscopy) procedures per annum. He confidently diagnoses and manages a range of GI conditions.
Dr White has a remarkable track record in research and education alongside delivering a high level of clinical care. He has completed a PhD at the University of Nottingham investigating using endoscopic techniques to identify individuals at risk of complications of H. pylori infection, the role of eradication therapy on the immune system and implications for allergic conditions.
Dr White is now a regional expert in H. pylori related disease and is currently in the process of completing new UK guidelines on the management of H. pylori infection. He has also held several other key positions including Clinical Lead for Gastroenterology for Community Health and Eye Care Ltd (CHEC), RCP associate tutor and as a committee member for Birmingham’s Widening Access to Medical School (BWAMS).
Since the completion of his PhD, he has continued to be actively involved in research. With expertise in observational, endoscopy and laboratory-based studies he has authored over 40 publications (which include original articles, review articles and book chapters). Dr White has been awarded a number of esteemed international and national research grants (including European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation (ECCO), Rosetrees Trust, Nottingham Hospitals Charity Research Pump Priming and NIHR Nottingham BRC Pump priming grants for cutting-edge research).
Since the completion of his post-graduate certificate in medical education (PGCE Med Ed), he has undertaken multiple roles within the University of Nottingham providing training and assessment of future doctors in addition to speaking at both national and international conferences
