Mrs Madgula is Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and a Glaucoma Specialist at the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS foundation Trust. She completed her ophthalmology training at Liverpool followed by a glaucoma fellowship at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. She is now the Glaucoma lead and was instrumental in transforming and pioneering shared care Glaucoma service in her Trust. She received national recognition for this work by being selected as a finalist for the Hospital Services Journal Awards ( HSJ awards) in 2022.
She was the first trainee in the UK to be selected as an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists(RCOphth), London. She has worked as a PLAB examiner for the GMC and now works for the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow examining internationally and for the RCOphth, London nationally. She takes an active interest in teaching and training medical students, optometrists and junior ophthalmology surgeons in her trust and has been awarded the role of Honorary Senior Lecturer University of Manchester.
She received the Dorey Lister award from the RCOphth, London for her charity work in India in 2015. She has presented her work in several national and international meetings and published in various peer reviewed indexed journals. She has an interest in complex adult glaucoma and performs Trabeculectomy, Glaucoma Drainage ( Tube) surgery, Glaucoma lasers ( YAG Peripheral Iridotomy, SLT) and cataract surgery standalone or with Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery or MIGS such as Istent, Hydrus, OMNI.
